Special Panel Event - Marked by Machine

As AI rapidly enters assessment systems across the VET sector, one question is becoming impossible to ignore... what happens when human judgement starts to disappear from the assessment process?

Description

Marked by Machine is a special 90-minute free virtual event bringing together leading voices from across VET, online education & compliance to unpack the governance, ethical & regulatory implications of AI-assisted assessment practices. Using the NAIC's facilitated scenario model developed around real-world risks & emerging practices, the panel will explore what happens when AI begins influencing assessment outcomes, student appeals & compliance decisions within an RTO environment.

Join our panel - Dr Deniese Cox, Vanessa McCarthy & Phill Bevan - as they work through a progressive live scenario involving AI-assisted assessment systems, student complaints, regulatory scrutiny, governance failures & the challenge of students using AI in assessments themselves. The discussion will apply the latest National AI Centre facilitated guidance, alongside ASQA's draft AI guidance, current VET regulatory expectations & emerging sector practices, to examine where AI may appropriately support assessment processes & where qualified human judgement must remain central.

Participants will explore issues including accountability for AI-supported assessment outcomes, defensible assessment decision-making, complaints & appeals processes, reasonable adjustment, authenticity of evidence & regulatory readiness under the Standards for RTOs. The session will also challenge organisations to reflect on whether their current systems, policies & quality frameworks are responsible & quality focused. Is your RTO facing AI marking AI?
